Ectopic Pregnancy Package

An ectopic pregnancy (EP) is a condition in which a fertilized egg settles and grows in any location other than the inner lining of the uterus. The vast majority of ectopic pregnancies are so-called tubal pregnancies and occur in the Fallopian tube (98%); however, they can occur in other locations, such as the ovary, cervix, and abdominal cavity. An ectopic pregnancy occurs in about one in 50 pregnancies. The major health risk of ectopic pregnancy is rupture leading to internal bleeding. Before the 19th century, the mortality rate (the death rate) from ectopic pregnancies exceeded 50% Treatment options for ectopic pregnancy include observation, laparoscopy, laparotomy, and medication. Selection of these options is individualized. Some ectopic pregnancies will resolve on their own without the need for any intervention, while others will need urgent surgery due to life-threatening bleeding. However, because of the risk of rupture and potential dire consequences, most women with a diagnosed ectopic pregnancy are treated with medications or surgery.

For those who require intervention, the most common treatment is surgery. Two surgical options are available; laparotomy and laparoscopy. Laparotomy is an open procedure whereby a transverse (bikini line) incision is made across the lower abdomen. Laparoscopy involves inserting viewing instruments into the pelvis through tiny incisions in the skin. For many surgeons and patients, laparoscopy is preferred over laparotomy because of the tiny incisions used and the speedy recovery afterwards. Under optimal conditions, a small incision can be made in the Fallopian tube and the ectopic pregnancy removed, leaving the Fallopian tube intact. However, certain conditions make laparoscopy less effective or unavailable as an alternative. These include massive pelvic scar tissue and excessive blood in the abdomen or pelvis. In some instances, the location or extent of damage may require removal of a portion of the Fallopian tube, the entire tube, the ovary, and even the uterus.

Hernia Repair

A hernia is a general term that refers to a protrusion of a body tissue through a wall of a cavity in which it is normally contained. An abdominal hernia is an opening or weakness in the muscular structure of the wall of the abdomen. The peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity) protrudes through the opening and this defect causes a bulging of the abdominal wall. This bulging is usually more noticeable when the abdominal muscles are tightened, thereby increasing the pressure in the abdomen. Any activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure can worsen a hernia; examples of such activities are lifting, coughing, or even straining to have a bowel movement. Imagine a barrel with a hole in its side and a balloon that is blown up inside the barrel. Part of the inflated balloon would bulge out through the hole. The balloon going through the hole is like the tissues of the abdomen bulging through a hernia. When the lining protrudes it can contain intra-abdominal contents such as the intestines and omentum (the layer of fat that covers abdominal organs). Serious complications from a hernia can result from the trapping of tissues in the hernia — a process called incarceration. Trapped or incarcerated tissues may have their blood supply cut off, leading to damage or death of the tissue. The treatment of an incarceration usually involves surgery.

About 10% of the population will have an abdominal hernia during their lifetime. The hernias may occur in infants, children, and adults — both in males and females.

Hernia repair can be done in the following different ways:

Abdominal

Incisional

Umbilical

Inguinal

Laparoscopic Surgery Package( General)

Laparoscopic surgery also referred to as minimally invasive surgery describes the performance of surgical procedures with the assistance of a video camera and several thin instruments. During the surgical procedure, small incisions of up to half an inch are made and plastic tubes called ports are placed through these incisions. The camera and the instruments are then introduced through the ports which allow access to the inside of the patient.

The camera transmits an image of the organs inside the abdomen onto a television monitor. The surgeon is not able to see directly into the patient without the traditional large incision. The video camera becomes a surgeon’s eyes in laparoscopy surgery, since the surgeon uses the image from the video camera positioned inside the patient’s body to perform the procedure.

The most general laparoscopic surgeries are performed for problems in gall bladder, appendix and hysterectomy.

Benefits of minimally invasive or laparoscopic procedures are

Less post-operative discomfort since the incisions are much smaller

Quicker recovery times

Shorter hospital stays

Earlier return to full activities

Much smaller scars

here may be less internal scarring when the procedures are performed in a minimally invasive fashion compared

to standard open surgery

Ovarian Cystectomy

Ovarian cysts are sacs filled with fluids or other substances located on or in an ovary. In some cases, these cysts need to be removed surgically. Multiple ovarian cysts may be a sign of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). A diagnosis of PCOS indicates the need for careful monitoring of symptoms and ongoing PCOS treatment, which may include an ovarian cystectomy procedure.

An ovarian cystectomy procedure removes cysts from an affected ovary. A cystectomy may be required if a cyst:

Affects fertility

Bleeds

Causes pain

Doesn’t go away after several periods

Grows larger over several cycles

Shows signs of being malignant

Having ovarian cysts doesn’t always require an ovarian cystectomy procedure. In most cases, ovarian cysts won’t cause any problems and will disappear on their own. Your doctor may prescribe birth control pills to prevent ovulation, lowering the possibility of cyst development. In some cases, PCOS treatment may involve removing cyst fluids through a needle.

Laparoscopic Ovarian Cystectomy

A laparoscopic cystectomy procedure is a relatively minor surgery, usually lasting no longer than an hour. The doctor places the patient under general anesthesia, and inserts a thin tube called a laparoscope through several small incisions in the abdomen. She then threads surgical tools and a fiber-optic camera through the laparoscope to perform the cystectomy.

A laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy is less invasive than conventional surgeries, making it a very popular ovarian cystectomy procedure. Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy recovery times are also shorter for than those of a traditional cystectomy procedure.

In most cases, a cystectomy removes only the cyst, leaving the ovaries intact. If, however, laparoscopic examination reveals the cyst is too large or connected to significant amounts of ovarian tissue, a doctor may warrant removal of the entire ovary. In order to rule out the possibility of ovarian cancer, your doctor may also biopsy any tissue that has been removed.

Piles Package

Piles are medically known as Hemorrhoids. It is a condition wherein the veins inside or outside the anus or lower rectum gets inflamed or swollen. Symptoms of piles include feeling of soreness, irritation or pain while passing stool. As a person passes stool, piles get aggravated because of pressure on the rectal area. In some cases, when the condition is severe, bleeding can also occur. Piles can be of various sizes and can be internal ones (inside the anus) or external ones (outside the anus). They are more common among adults aged between 45 and 65 years, as well as pregnant females. Males and females are equally susceptible to developing hemorrhoids.

Surgery for renal stones might be necessary if the stone:

Causes too much pain

Becomes too large to pass spontaneously
